Catching the Happy 787

 I wasn't sure what I was going to do on Saturday until I saw that an unusual airline was going to make an appearance at the airport.  I've never seen that airline here, so I figured I would head over there to get some pictures.  I decided to make an afternoon of it because I saw that there was going to be another unusual plane at Metro as well.

First up was not an unusual plane, an A321 coming in from 

Next up was an Embrear 175 sporting the newest United livery.  It was coming in from Houston.

And the plane I was looking for.

The plane itself is a 787 and I've seen several of those now.  I think this is the first time that this airline has visited Detroit though.

The Airline is TUI Airways out of England.  TUI got it's start as Euravia in 1964.  It was later known as Brittania.  In 2005, it became Thomson Airlines.  It was the first English airline to use the 787.  In 2015, it started under its current name.

The plane itself is registered in Belgium.  The airline mainly serves as a charter airline.

This particular flight was coming in from Stuttgart (which might also be a first for Detroit).

It was carrying some car parts from Mercedes for GM.

I will have to admit, this is a pretty nice looking livery.

And because I can't get enough of the plane or the livery, one more picture.

This is a plane that I haven't seen since the beginning of the COVID mess.  For a while, Delta was storing these.

It is the 717 which is the last member of the DC-9 family.  Unfortunately, there are plans to retire these planes.  It would be a shame because the DC-9 series is a classic.

This particular plane was arriving from Nashville.

I've seen these planes a couple times during the COVID mess but I can't pass up catching them.

It of course is an A350.  For the most part, it reminds me of a 787.

Another plane that I was waiting for.

This is a 777 belonging to United Airlines coming in from Dulles Airport in Washington DC.

It is carrying the Washington Football Team, formerly known as the Reskins.  I seriously hope they come up with a new name for them because Washington Football Team sounds lame.

Anyway, the Washington team would be facing the Lions on the next day.

Interestingly enough, the plane has won as many Super Bowls as the Lions.

The Point Aux Barques Lighthouse From the Air

 So after getting pictures of the Mississagi, I decided to head up the coastline.  I was hoping to get some lighthouse shots with my drone.  First I was going to get Port Sanillac but my mom didn't think that was a good idea because it's private.

Then I was going to get Harbor Beach, but I thought it might be too far out for my drone.

And then I decided on Point Aux Barques.  I kind of had to hurry because I was losing my light but it made for some cool shots.

And then I took it up higher to get some angles that I can't normally get.

Welcome Back to the Missisagi

 It seems like the Mississagi has been my go to ship this year.  She has been a pretty busy ship and I caught her again on Saturday.

It was pretty warm on Saturday and I wasn't able to use my first few pictures because of the heat haze.  I'm not 100% happy with this one but it's not bad.

I think she was heading up from Sandusky and I think she had a load of stone but I'm not sure where she was headed for.

But she was definitely loaded.

It's not usual to see upbound ships loaded but I prefer it when I get pictures of ships loaded.

The sun was hitting her just about right.

The lighting was beautiful.

I just wish I had a better background.

And then I switched to the drone.

I was thinking of keeping the drone so I could get a head on shot but I moved it to the side.

It was a little on the windy side, so I didn't take it up too high.

I kind of like this angle.  I think I should take it lower.

The Aujaq Passes Marysville

 Saturday was a pretty nice day but I got kind of a late start on it because I had to go get my blood checked and then I took my mom to get her blood checked.  It took both of us longer than usual to get our blood checked, so that meant a later start than planned.  This weekend may be the same as I need to take Chessie to the vet to get her checked out.

So after all of that, I decided to head up to the Port Huron area.  I was hoping to catch this salty, the Mississagi, John Munson and another ship.

I was able to catch this one as she was passing Marysville.  Based on her picture, I was hoping that she would be carrying windmill blades but that was not the case.

She was heading up to Duluth where I think she would be picking up grain.

But it was bright enough that I didn't have to much adjusting on the photo program.
