Catching Up With the Sykes

I saw that the Sykes was heading down on Sunday.  She was passing at time that I could get her.  While I enjoyed my other pictures of her, these were a little better because the sun was all the way up.

For her first trip, the Sykes went from Burns Harbor to Cleveland.  I assume she was carrying iron fines on that trip.
After she left Cleveland, she headed up to calcite where she picked up stone.
She was returning to Cleveland to deliver the stone, I presume.
I heard that she might be doing some shuttle runs in Cleveland.
So it's entirely possible that she may be around on Friday, so I might be able to catch her again.
Anyway, it was a nice day to catch her.
After Marysville, I went down to St. Clair to catch her.  If I didn't already catch those other two ships, I might not have caught her in as many places.
If you stand in the right spot in St. Clair, you can get a decent bow shot.
I was close, but not the right spot.
It was close.  I think I needed to be a little over.  Oh well.  Not a bad shot though.
Besides, I think I like these angles more.
The light was prefect.
One more shot with my normal camera.
It was getting windier here, so I had some issues with my drone.
I was still able to get my favorite angle though.
the beam shot.
And she continues down the river.
I headed to Marine City next.
This is another spot where I can catch a bow shot.
It's just a little further out.
She makes the turn.
I like this shot because it is relatively unobscured.
A little messy from loading stone.
An almost beam shot.
I like this shot.
And the beam shot.
A shot of her stack.
The Stars and Stripes flying proudly in the breeze.
Another shot.
Another shot of her stack.
One more shot.

Some Seagulls

While I am between ships, I have the opportunity to get some wildlife pictures.  In this case, some seagulls.

This seems like a classic photo of a seagull.
Except that these posts sometimes get in the way of ships.
A seagull flying.
I kind of like this one.
Looking around.  I wish I could have gotten it diving.
I really like this one.

Catching Up With the Kaye E. Barker

The next ship is the other ship that I was thinking that I would be able to catch in Detroit.  This is also the ship that would potentially interfere with catching the ship I wanted to catch in Port Huron.   She wasn't too far behind the Frontenac, so I stuck around to catch her.

The next ship up was the Kaye E. Barker.
She was making her normal run of Marquette to Dearborn.
The bowshot.
Because of that run, she is a frequent visitor to this blog.  I suspect that is not going to change any time soon.
Which I wont protest because she's a beautiful ship.
I was glad that it was nice and sunny because the ships pop out on days like this.
Although it was pretty cold.
One more with my normal camera.
Again, I switched to the drone.
It was mostly a nice day for it.
Since I could get on the sunny side, the ship really pops out.
The beam shot.
And in about 3 hours, she will be in Dearborn.

Starting Out With the Frontenac

I saw that a ship I really wanted to catch was coming down.  Then I saw that there were a couple of others.  My original plan was to catch the couple of other ships as they passed Detroit but I saw they were passing Marine City around the time I was up there.

The only problem was that catching both of these ships here meant that I would miss the ship I wanted to catch in Port Huron.
Which was fine because I caught her elsewhere and probably in more spaces because I didn't have to follow these ships.
So first up is the Thunder Bay.  Based on one of my early posts, she was returning from Thunder Bay.
Her destination is Port Colborne, so she could be carrying just about anything.
Anyway, it was nice to catch her because she's one of the classic lakers I like to catch.
I just wish she didn't have that boom.
But she's still got nice lines.
One more shot with my normal camera.
It was fairly calm yesterday, so I was able to take my drone out.  I was kind of amazed at how well the batteries held up.  I had enough charge to get some of the ships.
I like this angle.
The almost beam shot.
The beam shot.
And she continues on.
