The John D. Leitch

As I was as the Locks, I saw two ships. One of them was the John D. Leitch which is the ship posted here. The other is the ship that will be in the next post.

This is the ship as she is leaving the Poe Lock which is the only lock that can handle the bulk of the freighter traffic going through the Locks.

The John D. Leitch started her career as the Canadian Century and was built by the Port Weller Dry Docks at St. Catharines, ON in 1967. In 2001 she underwent a refit to increase her cargo capacity.

She is 730 feet long and can carry 31,000 tons of cargo.
