Thunder Over Michigan 2010 Part 6

My next post is an F-100 Super Sabre flown by a man out of Fort Wayne. This was pretty amazing since it was a privately owned jet. I would imagine you would need some pretty serious waivers to do this.

The F-100 was the first American jet equipped with an afterburner. I believe it was also the first US production aircraft that could go supersonic in level flight. It entered service in 1954 and saw service in the US Air Force until 1971. It was too late for Korea but was used quite extensively in Vietnam.

It had a pretty severe sweep compared to previous jets.

It was also a pretty sleek looking aircraft.

It was pretty neat to watch this one fly, especially when the pilot kicked in the afterburner because you could hear it puff.
