After chasing the train yesterday, I decided to head up to the Mackinac Bridge. It was a pretty nice day and I figured I would be getting there in roughly the right light.
First I made a stop to get a picture of the US Coast Guard Cutter Mackinaw which now serves as a museum ship. She was launched in March of 1944 and served on the Great Lakes as an ice breaker. She was based on the Wind class of coast guard icebreakers but she was built wider and longer so that her draft would be shallower. Since she was designed specifically for the Great Lakes, she was lighter than her sisters. After several years of service, she was decommissioned in 2006.
