The James L. Kuber was converted from being a proper ship to being a barge.
I think this is done when the engine areas can't support the conversion to diesel but the hull itself it still intact.
I also think that because it's a tug, it has a lower crew requirement than a proper ship.
I mean it's sad to see proper ships converted to these, but it still keeps people employed.
And they are pretty neat to look at.
I believe she was on her way to Toledo. As I type this, she's on her way back.
