I saw a news story that said we were going to be losing a major landmark on the Detroit River. As I looked towards the building, I saw that it was happening.
The Detroit Harbor Terminal Building was build in 1925 by the Detroit Railways and Harbor Terminals Company. It was a ten story, 900,000 square foot building made of reinforced concrete. It was designed by Albert Kahn. It was acquired by the Boblo Company and was used until 2003. In 2021, it was bought by the Maroun company. Apparently there is a dispute between the Detroit Port Authority and the Maroun Company as demolition was started and then stopped. it resumed in March of 2023 but not sure if it is still going on.
