The next vessel was kind of neat.
This is one that I don't usually see. I think the last time I saw her was in the Soo Locks on Engineer's Day.
It is the tug Spartan and her barge the Spartan II.
In 1969, she started life at the Burton Shipyard as the Lead Horse and was owned by Caspary Wendell. In 1971, she was sold to Santa Fe Pomeroy Marine Company. In 1973, she was bought by the Gulf Marine Company and her name was changed to the Gulf Challenger.
Eventually she came to the Lakes and was given her current name.
She carries calcium chloride to various places on the Great Lakes and is home ported in Ludington.
I'm not sure of her carrying capacity.
Nor am I sure where she was going.
