Fighter Friday - F4F Wildcat

I'm not sure if this is going to be a regular feature, but since I posted it on Facebook, I figure I might as well post it here too.
The F4F Wildcat was produced by the Grumman Aircraft Company.  It's first flight was in 1937 and the first units reached the US Navy in 1940.  It was developed from an earlier biplane.  It was powered by a Pratt and Whitney radial engine with 1200 horsepower.  This gave it a maximum speed of 320 miles per hour.

It wasn't a bad fighter for the start of the war but it was soon supplanted by the Hellcat.  However, it continued to see service in the war as it was carried on the escort carriers.
