The Harbinger of Spring

I realize that seeing a robin is not necessarily a sign of spring as some of them get stuck and don't end up migrating but it is still a good sign as I think they at least try to stick under cover if they are stuck behind.

It was named the robin after the European robin because of the red breast but neither species is closely related.

The robin was established as Michigan's state bird in 1931.
