So this is the ship that I was waiting for.
The Michipicoten has been pretty busy lately and it's rare for her to make an appearance on this side of the state but she has been doing so quite a bit lately. I think she is making up for the fact that the Manistee is likely in her final layup.
She was heading to Marysville with a load of stone but I don't remember where she picked up that load.
Marysville is about an hour from this point (maybe even closer as the site is where the power plant used to be). She normally does the Marquette or Duluth to Sault Ste Marie run and you can see the iron dust on her hull.
After making the first turn to make the mouth of the channel. I am still surprised they never straightened the channel here. Maybe they were thinking of it but the cost wasn't worth it. It is rare for issues here though.
It was a nice day although it was a bit on the windy side. The Michipicoten is actually a movie star. Well in her previous life she was a movie star. She had about a minute screen time in "Grosse Pointe Blank" while she was the Elton Hoyt II. She was heading on the Detroit River as they did the cut scenes of Detroit at the beginning of the movie.
the water was still a nice shade of blue.
She approaches the Blue Water Bridges. You can see the shadow on the bow.
I think she was under the bridge at this point.
She starts to make the turn for the next part of the run.
This is one of the reasons I like taking pictures up in Port Huron. It is one of the few places where you can get a nice headshot without being in a boat.
She continues her turn for the next part of the river.
You can see her iron dust clearly here.
A shot sort of framed by the bridge.
Another shot with the bridge.
She is short enough to give me a beam shot here.
A shot of her pilothouse as she passes.
her deckhouse.
While I think this is a cool logo it still reminds me too much of the logo for the hockey team.
Her Canadian flag flapping proudly in the breeze.
She passes by.
I kind of like how the flag looked in this shot.
More of stern shot.
Even more of one.
I liked how the Canadian flag was almost standing out in this shot. From this point, she is probably about 45 minutes to her destination.
