So I went to see Eastern Michigan play the University of Michigan in basketball last night. Given that Michigan was upset over the weekend by NJIT, I thought that Eastern wouldn't have a chance. I was pretty sure it would be a good game and Eastern would keep it close but I thought that Michigan would eventually triumph. I'm just posting my favorites from last night here. If you want to see others, go to Eagle Totem.
A shot of Michigan Stadium at night. I'm still not entirely sold on these scoreboards. I like the fact that the stadium used to be pretty low key. Now it kind of towers over everything.
The Crisler Center used to be known as Crisler Arena until 2011. It was built in 1967 and was renovated in 2011. It was named after Fritz Crisler, who was the Michigan Football coach from 1938 to 1947 and the athletic director until his retirement in 1968. He is the coach who has the 1 extra seat at Michigan Stadium. When it was renovated, seating capacity was reduced by there were a number of improvements made to the building.
The Center holds 12,707 people. If you look at the top, you can see that the basketball team has won a few Big Ten Championships (their titles from the 90's were vacated after a large scandal).
Their lone National Championship banner.
The game itself was pretty good. It was pretty clear from the beginning that Eastern came to play. This is Raven Lee dunking after an early steal.
Mike Talley getting mugged on his way to the basket. The referees seemed pretty biased towards Michigan in the first half.
Karrington Ward with a dunk in the first half. If few more of his threes had sank, the game could have easily been a blowout.
Raven Lee working his way around the defense. Eastern's defense was pretty stifling last night and Michigan never really had a chance to set up any good shots. Eastern's rebounding was even more impressive. I think Michigan had a total of two offensive rebounds.
Mike Talley taking a shot.
Brandon Nazione getting fouled on his way to the basket. He was able to sink both free throws.
Eastern would go on to win the game 45-42. This was the first time that Eastern has beat Michigan since 1997. This would mark the third time that Eastern has won overall. This was the fewest points that Michigan scored since 2009. So overall, it was a pretty impressive win for Eastern Michigan.
