Since I was already in that neck of the woods, I decided to stop by the Capitol Building to get some pictures.
During the holiday season, the Capitol Building looks quite nice.
The state Christmas tree is a blue spruce from Kingsford, Michigan in the upper peninsula. It is decorated with 4,000 lights.
A shot of the Capitol Building without the tree.
The statue is of Austin Blair who was Michigan's governor during the Civil War. He was a strong abolitionist and one of the stronger supporters of the war effort. He also lead the effort to ban capital punishment in Michigan.

And from the other side.
A statue dedicated to the 1st Michigan Sharpshooters which was a unit during the Civil War.
